February 8th: Smart Money Moves for Solopreneurs

I broke a rule...I talked about money with a friend

I had coffee with a good friend of mine over the weekend who wants to start her own business. We were chatting about some of her goals and I asked her if she had any financial goals.

She looked around and then whispered what she currently makes at her 9-5 job and that she wants to double that through this venture that she's so passionate about.

I giggled to myself that she had been nervous about telling me her income (I'm one of her best friends), but then she reversed the question and asked me my hourly rate.

Jokes on me. I had the same reaction that she did. While I'm happy with my rate, the idea of talking about it just felt like I was doing something wrong.

You're not supposed to talk about money with people!

The whole topic is taboo.

While it's understandable that not everyone is eager to share their financial details with the world, there's a crucial aspect we shouldn't overlook—being honest with ourselves about our finances and having a well-thought-out plan in place.

It's a reality we all face, and acknowledging it is the first step towards financial well-being.

As a solopreneur, you're navigating personal finances and managing a business, so developing financial literacy or aligning yourself with someone who possesses it is paramount for long-term success.
